really a good post, i have learned much from it,

one thing i should like to add is that, i have seen blogs where right click is disabled and when u right click on blogs like that a message is displayed so this strategy is also very effective for dealing with content theives, but it cant protect your feed.

Thank you so much for all of this great information, Kathy. This is something I honestly never thought about until reading Annie's original post (and Mr BrownThumb's follow-ups, and now yours) and it's so nice to have links from trusted "online friends" directing me toward a few starting points. I appreciate it.

I love your summary at the bottom. It's very important to realize that 99% of all content theft isn't personal. It isn't happening only to you. It's happening to EVERYONE. If everyone fights back, instead of feeling helpless or thinking there is nothing they can do, we can put an end to this. It's easy.

Jonathan Bailey's <a href="http://www.blogherald.com/2007/11/26/the-6-steps-to-stop-content-theft/" title="The 6 Steps to Stop Content Theft" rel="nofollow">The 6 Steps to Stop Content Theft</a> is a brilliant, easy to use, step-by-step process to stop a content thief.

The sploggers who use autoscraping tools to grab feeds from blogs aren't limiting themselves to your blog. Or even two or three blogs. They are scraping the feeds of dozens, possibly hundreds or thousands of blogs. You will spot them when you check a suspicious trackback and find 6,345 posts in Uncategorized, published in the past two months. Something wrong there, isn't there.

We need to individually report all content thieves, but we also have to come up with a way to stop the financial gain these evil doers get. We have to stop the reward system. I've been asking for ideas for years. We bloggers are some of the most creative and imaginative folks around. Why can't we come up with a way to make life financially miserable for scrapers?

Sigh. :)
